Alexander Ovechkin needs to be suspended

Call it a cheap shot, call it a dirty hit, what it was, was an intent to injure.  Alexander Ovechkin purposely hit his fellow countryman Sergei Gonchar knee to knee with intent to take Gonchar out of the game.  Ovechkin history of a short temper is world renowned and Gonchar scoring a goal minutes earlier in the game to tie it up got his temper going.

This is a player that will do whatever it takes to win, a Sean Avery if you will. If the NHL doesn’t step in now it will become open season next game, there would be absolutely no reason a Penguin would not do the same to a Capital player.

While you are at it, count me in with the thousands of Detroit fans upset over the job done by the NHL referee’s Tim Peel & Brad Watson the same referee’s that disgraced hockey in the Detroit / Anaheim game 3 days ago were responsible for tonight’s debacle.  With these two out there it is a matter of time until some of the NHL’s most talented players are injured and no one will be watching once again.

Video of the Ovechkin hit is below…

An intent to injure hit worthy of a long suspension.

  1. [Da Cheez says: When a player claims that he seek’s retribution for Kunitz on Varlamov . . . well, he got it.]

Amen, too!! Tell Kunitz to keep his stick under control or Crosby could be next… An eye for an eye, as it should be…

[Papa Malkin had a few words for him in the hall way after the game]

Words is all he could have, less A.O. drop him like a hot rock…

[Ovechnik has constantly RUN players . . . has a history of running players with the obvious intent to injure.]

Total BS, and you know it… Pens fans aren’t just used to their top players being hit… Prince Mario was never touched… Welcome to the real NHL… BTW, how many injuries did Kasperaitis cause while you Pens fans cheered him on? Yinzers are a bunch of hypocrites…

[As quick as they were to embrace Jaromir Jagr they all (including PHat Ted) turned on him in a second……… ]

Only after he quit on the team…

That was cheap beyond cheap, he needs to be suspended. When you see it from the other angle, his leg is stuck out and he is aiming for the knee definite intent to injure.

Whaaaaaa!! Get some tissues… Kunitz crosschecks Varlamov on the head and you don’t think there will be repercussions… You dreamers are funny!!

  3. @ PENZRGR8

McPhee sent Varlamov down to Hershey claiming the kid was the future but that he needed to learn the rigors of playing in North America. McPhee’s claim was he practiced too hard and spent too much time on the ice and that he needed to pay attention and pace himself according to the schedule.
Maybe he was just pacing himself last night!
    Boom -Boom Boom..

  4. Wanted to say a few other things about the game.

It appears we found a weakness of Varlomov’s. Hopefully, we can keep it going tonight. Thought players stepped up once again, which makes us the better team.

It also appears we found a weakness of Ovechkins. Shut him down and he decides to take someone out. After the game he said it is what it is. He also said he did not intentionally hurt Gonch. I am sure he feels that way in retrospect. First because he was a fellow team-mate and because he may get a suspension or fine. I think the league should look at the incident not the player.

Other teams fans are so big on how they give Crosby favors because of his likeability around the league. Watch how the league handles Ovechkins blatant knee on knee contact. He will just get a slap on the wrist. SO BE QUIET ALREADY ABOUT THE FAVORITISM OF CROSBY.

    GO PENZ!

    – Two down two to go. Another town, two more shows.

    PENS IN 6.
The Caps are on their way down.

  5. Ovechkin says in the post game, “I think it’s a dirty hit…..” What more do you need?

  6. When a player claims that he seek’s retribution for Kunitz on Varlamov . . . well, he got it. And the NHL should look at it just like any other player who intends to injure. Papa Malkin had a few words for him in the hall way after the game. Ovechnik has constantly RUN players . . . has a history of running players with the obvious intent to injure. The WASH DC boggers are mostly BSer (e.g. Stienberg, the 7th Street Grille fiction) are all members of PHat Ted Leonsis brigade that Leonsis has in his back pocket. These guys are less than a city block away from root toot tooting for NASCAR drivers. It’s the mentality of their whole organization. Whiners, chokers, and totals BSers. They have some good fans down there but there are a whole bunch who think that when they are skating during warmups that the caution flag is out. As quick as PHat Ted Leonsis got fans into the Phoone Booth – they will leave. As quick as they were to embrace Jaromir Jagr they all (including PHat Ted) turned on him in a second……… PHat Ted’s ego is about the same as Ovechnik’s and you can bet they will they’ll do the same for Ovechnik also. BTW, super follow-up reporting on the BS blogger who didn’t check out his facts. I can’t think of any establishment in the ‘Burgh doing that.

  7. I agree he should be suspended and the refs seemed to have forgot their whistles in the dressing room during the second intermission, some is going to get seriously hurt because of the refs. Also Ovechkin should have received more than a 2 minute minor for that hit.

  8. SUSPEND HIM! This guy takes runs at players with intent to injure all the time. He said he was trying to move out of the way and Gonchar turned into him. The video proves him 100% wrong. He admitted in his post game interview it was a knee on knee hit which is suspendable by NHL rules. I agree, he is basically an Avery that can shoot. What a headcase.

  9. If they don’t suspend Ovechkin, and a player does the same to Ovechkin and takes him out, the replays of both of them together would make the NHL the laughing stock – the game was fantastic the refs Tim Peel & Brad Watson sucked – they should fire those two idiots now and save some fans!

  10. There is no question about it, Ovechikin is one sick puppy. He`s an egomaniac. I will never forget the runs he took at Malkin. This should never have happened. If Goncahr is out, someway, Ovechkin better be out or he has to pay for what he did. I hope Malkin shows up and out plays this classless jerk.

  11. That was cheap beyond cheap, he needs to be suspended. When you see it from the other angle, his leg is stuck out and he is aiming for the knee definite intent to injure.

The puck was in the corner, Gonchar was skating out of the way and Ovechkin purposely skated towards Gonchar not the puck. Ovechkin is a guy who knows the importance of Gonchar to our powerplay and saw a chance. This guy is psycho and if the league doesn’t send a message now, it will get very ugly. He took Gonchar out of the series with intent to injure he should be gone for the series.
