In my humble opinion (they never say this)but I believe it is solely for the money. Roenick’s making $1.1 million and although that’s pipsqueek pay for hockey players it a lot of money for someone about to be tossed out on his can. Sergei Fedorov is another example about ready to hang them up McPhee offers him $4 million which is almost equal to what the Detroit bank was sueing him for failure to repay a loan. Fedorov has participated (not played) in about half of Washington’s games and sometimes appears to be just going through the motions. He’s not a noticable as Roenick but that’s only because Roenick flaps his lips so much.
