The Capitals owner Ted Leonsis brought in Jagr. McPhee never brought in the support needed for Jagr and it turned into a FUBAR situation there. McPhee somehow made Leonsis the scapegoat and yet bringing in Jagr was one of the best moves made by Washington. I think when you evaluate most any decision made by McPhee if you analyze it based on "what helps HIS future" it becomes very clear. If he doesn't load up for a run and promises to consistently "knock on the door" - that is, making the playoffs where (16 of 30) teams accomplish that is a lot easier of a task than attempting to be (1 of 30) like Shero did last season. Looking at Philadelphia you've got to hand them one thing. They do make attempts to do something every year rather than just be a mediocre type team. That's why the Flyers/Pens games will always be more intense than Caps/Pens games. The Ovechkin/Crosby/Malkin thing brings interest but deep down-in a win over the Flyers is ten-fold anything over the Capitals.
The great thing for penguin fans is that elebeck is right - while they both may have a clue how the salary cap works neither franchise has the ability to think out how to put together the overall team very well.

the flyers just nullified their trade with the sharks for Kyle McLaren - he didn't pass their physical. He must be missing both legs or something, the'll take anyone in.

Philthadelphia is withing 100,000 of their cap space now. Their salary next year vs their cap hit is way different for instance Briers 8 milion salary is a 6.5 mil cap hit. Jones and Rathje make millions not playing also. talk about dumb management.

The Flyer Upper Management (Snider, Clarke and Holmgren) have to be considered amoung the worst of all time. Not only are they unable to understand the "NEW" NHL style of play, but they also do not understand the Salary Cap.

For the Philadelphia faithful it will only get worse before it gets better. With the 09/10 Salary cap expected to stay the same(56.7 Million) at best, the Fly$ have 24 players signed next year for a whooping 60.02 Million. Thats right, they are all ready over the Cap, and it gets better, None of those 24 players are Goaltenders.

The only chance the Fly$ have is to find someone dumber to take over the (permentaly) injured Briere (6 years & 36 Million owed), the injured Mike Rathjie (next years version of Derien Hatcher) and underperforming and Aging Kimmo Timonen (4 years & 22 Million owed).

It is a good thing that The Metropoliten Philadelphia Area has a population of close to 6 Million. This way Snider and Clarke can fool an entire group of fans every year. 1974 is a long way off
