McElhinney for Toskala = WHY? Sure, Calgary has needed an upgrade at back up goalie, but one that is currently making $4 million. Anaheim has got to be counting their lucky stars that they found one soneone stupider than them to take Vesa off of their hands

I really don't see the Pens making any more movies. I think Shero identified the players he wanted a couple of weeks ago and then went out and got them. He didn't overpay for either, and I think he is now satisfied with the roster he has to go into the playoffs with

Some people think this is a another slash to our depth and while we lost some depth that slash is more like a like a paper cut.
There is a small window in the Stanley Cup Playoff crap-shoot and when you are a serious challenger you've got to go for it. In either of these two moves nothings guaranteed but one thing for sure is we've got a management team that isn't afraid to fill the holes.

Shero has been a genius in this regard. If you need to fill a void and you hang on... procrastinating until the last minute to close the deal the risk involved is that some other team will get the asset you wanted in that last minute and that isn't worth the risk.

We saw that last season with the Washington Capitals who didn't do a thing. They "protected their depth"... died in the 2nd round... and may still be "protecting that depth" this season... again these trades don't come with a guarantee but if your placing a bet on who will win the race........ it's a good idea to always put your money on the fastest horse.
