This is amazing! I have never ever ever heard of this game or goal. I started following the Penguins during their fisrt Stanley Cup run. I would really love to see this entire game especially now knowing the story behind it. The Mike Lang play call is phenominal!! Does that place still exist that can get you any game on video?

Thanks! I’ve been meaning to talk about this goal and game for a long time. I think the reason it never shows up in any Penguin collections is because the greatness of the goal stems partly from controversy.

Mario has scored important goals and he has scored amazing goals, this is the only goal I know of that he did both.

I’ve have also heard rumor that Creamer was NOT pulling Guenette and Mario skated over and told Guenette to skate to the bench as soon as the puck was down the other end. Don’t know if that is true or not.

This may be your best work to date. Tremendous article. Although I am also a long time diehard fan I had forgotten about the greatness and the significance of this goal.
Thanks for bringing back the wonderful memory. It is also fun to recall the incredible incompetence of Pierre Creamer,who once described a player being out of the lineup because “he’s got the P-Monia”. Great work!!!
