Penguins Lose to Stanley Cup Rival Red Wings
This is another one of those games, as fans, we really look forward to. A rematch with the team that the Pens have faced in the last two Stanley Cup Finals. One would think that the players would also get up for a game like this…..maybe, not so much.
I have just a couple of thoughts after watching tonights loss:
- Though, I thought Fleury made a bunch of really good saves, the wrist shot from 40 feet he let go by was a backbreaker.
- Watching the Pens get out-muscled by the likes of Johan Franzen and Tomas Holstrom all night was quite discouraging.
- I have questioned the Penguins strategy of having the defensemen back in and allowing opposing attackers to easily gain the blue line before, but I think it bears repeating. Would it kill them to challenge the other team at the blue line once in a while?
- Was Ponikarovsky wearing roller skates tonight? He seemed to have trouble staying on his feet this evening.
Hopefully the Pens can step it up Wednesday against the dreaded Capitals.

No doubt, R.Dunlap is right about them backing in.
