The Pittsburgh Penguins signed Winger tough guy Arron Asham to a one year contract for 700 thousand. 5′ 11″ 205pd Asham played the last two seasons for the Philadelphia Flyers. Asham is more known for his physical style play than his scoring, but can still put the puck in the net, he netted 10 goals last season.

This changes the landscape of the Penguins lineup and could mean the end for team favorite like Eric Goddard who once again this year was benched for the duration of the playoffs. Asham played 23 games for Philly in the playoffs last year and had 4 goals and 3 assists.

With this signing the Penguins are left with a little under $2 million in salary cap, look for them to possibly make a trade and/or acquire a much needed right handed goal scorer for the power play before the season starts.

  1. I’m sorry, I hav to get this off my chest. I attended the April 11th game at Nassau Coliseum when Sidney Crosby scored his 50th goal. The place was filled with Penguins fans, most of whom lived on long island and were front runners from the previous season. I cannot stand u obnoxious, frontrunning Penguins fans. Either u r a true fan from the Lemieux era, or only became a fan when Malkin and Crosby got drafted, or when they won the cup. STOP BEING FRONT RUNNERS! GROW UP

    1. Huh???? RBA…

I’m sorry, I have to get this off my chest. I didn’t attend the game when Tavares scored his 10th goal. The place was filled with Islander fans, most of whom lived in Pittsburgh and were front runners from the previous season. I cannot stand u obnoxious, frontrunning Islander fans. Either u r a true fan from the Bossy era, or only became a fan when Sutton and Tavares got drafted, or when they won a game. STOP BEING FRONT RUNNERS! GROW UP

      WTF’s a Front Runner??????

      1. Definition of Front Runner- Pittsburgh Penguins fans

No, but in all seriousness, a front runner is someone who becomes a fan only after that team starts winning. Islanders fans cannot possibly be front runners bc we suck.

        1. Um, what exactly is your point? When the Pens were sucking eggs, nobody talked much about them, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t fans. Are you saying that because there weren’t sellouts when we sucked that there weren’t fans? And another thing – so Nassau Coliseum was full of Pens fans? You think maybe that’s because it’s IMPOSSIBLE to get a ticket to a home game, but pretty easy to get one for the, as you say, sucky Islanders?

Finally, it’s a GOOD thing if we are attracting new fans, isn’t it? Isn’t that exactly what we, as fans of hockey, want to see? More interest in our sport?

I think YOU need to grow up and think a little bit before you post any more of this nonsense.

          1. NO. It is not a good thing if you are attracting more fans who are only attracted bc your team is winning cups. That is called “bandwagon”. And it is a word that describes a large portion of the Penguin fanbase, especially the “fanbase” that resides in NY with their Sidney Crosby jerseys and their pathetic attempts to convince themselves and others that they are “true” Penguins fans when the reality is they only became fans after 2008, or later.

            1. I fail to understand what part of getting new fans is a bad thing, regardless of your arguments. True, there are many bandwagon fans. But so what? If the Islanders had the talent and buzz that the Pens have, would you be all pissy with Islander bandwagon fans? And why? WHO CARES?!?! How does it affect you? All it does is make people MORE excited, and how can that be a bad thing?

Listen, I have followed and loved the Pens since I was a youngin’, starting a year before they got Lemieux. I have watched through thick and thin, and I have never been as psyched as I am now. And I don’t care if we have bandwagon fans – I can cheer with them same as I can cheer with old timers.

              Get over yourself.

  2. I hate the FLYERS. Aaron Asham is a bum. I literally felt sick when I read about this signing. This is one player that when he puts on the Penguin uniform that I will still hate. I know that he scored 10 goals last year.
So what. He is not the type of player that the Penguins should want in their organization. This also means that one of the young guys will not get a chance to make the team. And by the way. The FLYERS suck.

    1. I hope this guy doesn’t end up being a cancer in the locker room, it could be the reason he gets moved every year.

    2. Wow,

Pretty harsh stuff.I think the guy might actually help them. Could be a really solid fourth line guy. If any of the younger guys are fighting for a spot it wont be for the fourth line.

    3. Give the guy a chance! He was always dangerous on the ice against the Pens, and wasn’t nearly the d-bag that others on that team were. I think he’ll be like Ruutu from the perspective that if you have him, you like him, but if you don’t, you hate him. Plus, maybe they can get rid of Goddard, who’s useless to the team come every April.
