so true. I say trade Letang- I think he scored 2 goals for the Habs, Most evenings he looks clueless. A few local sportswriters seem to have a crush on him and keep saying he is still young. Well his salary says he should be delivering now. He had under 2% scoring average. A waste of cap space.

Players that signed recend deals are taking pay cuts. So call Volchenkov, Lee Stempniak, Cooke, Eaton, and the 6'6'' Monster and do what it takes. Doug Weight is 2 years younger than Guerin, I'm just saying. Get Tangradi ready, and have all the players watch in disgust as Chicago raises the cup.

Assuming Tangradi and Engelland on the roster and a salary cap of $57M (a very slight increase), here is what I would do. Sign both Cooke and Eaton with a $500K raise ($1.7M and $2.5M respectively) and Lovejoy with a $250K raise ($750K). This leaves the need for 1 winger and 1 defense to fill out the roster and $6M to work with. Scenario 1: Guerin at $1M and Volchenkov / Hamhuis at $5M. Scenario 2: Stempniak / Frolov at $4M and Mara / Boynton at $2. Scenario 3: Chris Higgins and Willie Mitchell / Pavel Kubina at $3M. I’d favor spending more on forwards because we’d like to see a decent goal scorer on the wing sometime soon, although to my mind the only can’t miss signing out of this group is Volchenkov. It isn’t pretty on the free agent winger market this year.

Slightly off topic, there are only 2 players that I would even consider trading Malkin ($8.7M) for, taking into account skill, age, position and contract: Rick Nash ($7.8M) and Patrick Kane ($6.3M). Kane is out, because the Hawks are already going to have serious cap issues next year and won’t want to take on the additional $2.4M cap hit. That leaves Rick Nash who got a chance to play with Crosby in the Olympics with mixed results. Since this seems unlikely from Columbus’ point of view, it doesn’t look like Malkin will be going anywhere, at least not without getting less in return.

I like where the Penguinies are in terms of their nucleus. Obviously, the puke job with the Canadiens was sad to watch but a good dose of humility can't hurt a such a young team. To that end--let Poni, Feds, Guerin, and Gonch go. Crosby will step up to the locker room leadership plate along with Orpik. Snag the bruising dman and find a capable, easy on the cap, 20 goal scorer for Malkin. Bring Tangradi up and put him on Crosby's line (he'll get 25 goals just standing in front of the net and/or get Armstrong back to placate Crosby). Keep Cookie monster @ a cap friendly 2m for 3 years. Keep Leapold and Eaton together (unless they price themselves out). Lovejoy is ready (got to see what he and Tans can do). Gogo and Letang will be find. All that being said: just get a stud FA blueliner into the mix and a winger who can create his own chances and we'll be hoisting next year's cup.

I think Guerin lloked great in the playoffs, he played part in blocking the goaltenders view in more many more goals than he got credit for, but age is a factor.

Cooke should want to stay. To play with the passion he does for a team that doesn't have great promise like he has in the past wears ya down. The pens need him.

Gonchar looked depleted in the playoffs, Goligoski and Letang are ready to fill his shoes use his money for a good winger or a big hitting defensemen with a bit of a mean streak.
