Pittsburgh Penguins Draft Predictions

The NHL draft is right around the corner. All 30 teams will be begin drafting the future stars of the NHL on June 25th in Los Angeles.  The Pittsburgh Penguins hold the 20th selection for the 2010. I will breakdown three players that I believe may be on Ray Shero’s radar.

 1.      Mark Pysyk:  Mark is a 6 foot 1 inch; 179 pound right- handed shooting defensemen for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL.  The Hockey News has him rated 20th best prospect in this year’s draft.  Everything I heard about this kid reminds me of Rob Scuderi with offensive upside once he matures. “He often makes plays many junior aged players would not think.” (thescoutingreport.org)

2.    Jarred Tinordi: Jarred is a 6 foot five inch; left- handed shooting defensemen. The son of Mark Tinordi, the former NHL defenseman.  The Hockey News has him rated 22nd best player in this year’s draft.  Although dubbed by some as a project, with Jarred’s size, skating ability, and hockey knowledge he is anything but a project. Penguin poop fans, we may have a replacement for Hal Gill.

3.   Dylan Mcilrath: Dylan is a 6 foot 4 inch; 212 pound right- handed shooting defenseman from the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL. The Hockey News rates Dylan there 25th best prospect. This kid is mean, nasty, and has a booming shot from the point. Borrowing a page from Rocky IV, “Whatever he hits, he destroys.” Youtube it!

Ray if you are reading, pick one of these three prospects! They all would look good in a Penguin uniform.

  1. Re: Dylan Mcilrath

You’re not kidding about whatever he hits he destroys. Even when he gets jumped, he stays on his skates, takes a few, and commences the pounding. Guys like that are incredibly valuable in the AHL, but I’m not sure it completely translates to a first rounder for an NHL club.

  2. No way. We don’t really need to stockpile up another 1st rd. pick on a d-man. I agree with Evilpens at the bottom. If Kubanov is available you’ve got to take a chance on him. Other than Tangradi and maybe Johnson the Pens have no prospects at wing.

  3. Art,

Great article! I was going to go to the draft in LA now I do not need to! BTW great piece on the suck @ss Flyers!

  4. I agree with you to a point. The Hockey News says the knock on him is he has a bad attitude. Who ever the Penguins take in the 1st will not be NHL ready for at least 3 years, by that time no ones for sure what the Penguins will need by then. If he slides in the second round then take him.

  5. UMMM NO, NO & UMMM NO !!! The need Wingers who Can ACTUALLY score Goals !! Take a Huge Chance on Kirill Kabanov

    1. It would take forever for a winger to be ready to play, probably even longer for a defenseman. Draft the best available player, don’t try to fit him into the lineup. The main lineup is set for years to come and the pens will not have enough money to sign a prospect to a lengthy term anyway. Use the best draft you can get as for a trade. In ten to fifteen years the Pens can draft for position again.
