Penguins Bylsma could be suspended because of ref O’Halloran’s incompetence

Penguins Coach Dan Bylsma has been suspended by the NHL pending review because Penguins enforcer Eric Godard left the bench during an altercation. An altercation that would have never taken place had NHL referee #13 Dan O’Halloran did his job.

A little over four minutes into the third period of last nights game the Islander’s Trevor Gillies skated all the way across the ice to purposefully deliver a flying elbow to the head of Eric Tangradi who by the way is most likely out with concussion like symptoms. This prompted AHL goon Micheal Haley who was already trying to instigate a fight with Max Talbot to drop the gloves and fight with Talbot. It is right after the fight that referee Dan O’Halloran dropped the ball.

Haley a noted goon who had already been in a fight this game, and just instigated a second one, gets left alone to keep fighting. In the video below you can see after the fight with Talbot, ref O’Halloran #13,  instead of ushering the AHL goon Haley, who has already been in two fights, off the ice, instead  just lets him go to fight again. This is incompetence on a major level and the NHL needs to reprimand O’Halloran before someone gets hurt.

I don’t have the video, but later after the scrap between Godard, Haley and Johnson all the refs and linesmen are breaking up fights and ushering players off and O’Halloran stands there with his thump up his arse.

If O’Halloran did his job, Haley never goes after the Penguins goaltender and Godard never jumps the bench to protect his goaltender. It is that simple. The NHL needs to revoke the automatic suspension of Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma because of this and this alone.

The NHL also needs to look into reprimanding the Islanders management (if you can seriously call Garth Snow & crew that) for calling up goons just to play in this game.  The Islanders instigated the fighting before the game even started.

This all started when Islander goalie Rick Dipietro last week took a cheap whack at Matt Cooke then called on Penguins goaltender Johnson to fight.  Johnson knocked him out in 1 punch and stopped and then asked if Dipietro was alright.  Then last night the Islanders sucker punch and cheap shot the Pens all night.  The Islanders organization is truely a classless organization.

UPDATE:  NHL suspends Pittsburgh Penguins Eric Goddard 10 games (automatic suspension for leaving the bench during an altercation).

*Coach Dan Bylsma did not get fined and the NHL revoked his suspension.

Islanders suspensions and fines:   Trevor Gillies suspended 9 games.   Islanders Matt Martin suspended 4 games and the NHL fined Islanders $100k for brawl last night.

  1. Good for the Islanders. Why do you think they call up goons? Because other teams have out physically played the islanders and because the refs don’t do there job. In this new era of the NHL people forgot what an enforcer was for, but everyone is dropping the enforcers to the AHL for the snipers. Have any of you been to an AHL game recently? It basically a boxing match…

And no, I’m not a Islanders fan. I’m a devils fan, so in my opinion you both suck. 🙂

  2. The Isles do suck. But we’re rebuilding just like you guys did. I wouldn’t need to say that if u knew anything about hockey. You’re all a bunch of frontrunners who decided to become fans after the pens got crosby. Some of u only became fans when they won the Cup. Please grow a pair.

  3. NYI’s are a bad team and have been a bad team with poor coaching. As Pittsburg continues to be competitive year after year, the Islanders are little more than a recreatioal league team with a couple goons. Yeah.., they got in some fights.,. How bout get in the playoffs you incompetent tools! Oh and you all suck too!

  4. Haley got his ass kicked by Johnson? No, Haley got double-teamed in typical Pittsburgh-pussy style (Pennsylvania-pussy style, I should say, u guys r just as bad as Philly) by Godard and Johnson. YOU NEEDED TWO GUYS TO STOP HALEY! AHAHAHAHAHAH! AND HE SCORED A BEAUTY ON U TOOLS!!!!!

    1. I wonder if when the islanders move to Quebec in two years if they’ll stay the islanders or go back to being the Nordiques?

  5. Friday’s game was disgusting. While I’m okay with fighting in hockey games, to a point, what the Islanders did was over the top. For the refs to have to hand out game misconducts to every player invovled in a fight should speak for itself. The Islanders held a grudge that should have been dealt with in the first with one fight. For three different players to go after Max, one to go after the goalie and one to elbow a minor league call up in the head, only to be allowed to stand by him and keep taunting him is terrible. I think more should have been done to stop this kind of thing for happening again. I really hope Eric Tangradi is okay, and some were saying that Craig Adams was hurt in a fight, so if that’s true, I hope he’s fine too. This is the kind of game where we needed Matt Cooke. The Islanders are an embarassment of a team, and a disgrace to the NHL.

    1. It’s automatic, since Eric jumped off the bench, Dan gets suspended and fined 10K. Can’t say I’m okay with that though. After everything that happened that night, I would have done the same thing Eric did.

  6. Yeah, well as far as I could tell Johnson kicked the crap out of Haley. LOL. How embarrassing to have your butt kicked by a goalie in pads.

  7. That was a disgrace to the name of hockey and for anyone to say this was deserved do not know what this game is about. The Isles and their organization are a disgrace to the game and the NHL. A true shit show that was a result of Garth Snow’s idiocy and poor officiating. Congrats Islanders! You somehow manage to make a name for yourself even though your team will not make the playoffs for another 10 years. Pretty sad when even a skilled player like Tavares is a part of this bullshit! What a bunch of morons!

  8. that game was so ugly last night they should have called it early. The officials are fortunate no one was hurt worse that what injuries occured.for haley to put talbot on his back and stand over him and the officials to all stand there and look at him AND then let him skate off is utter incompetance.

  9. The Islanders organization is truely a classless organization.
    LOLUMAD?

Bet Fleury and Johnny weren’t laughing and high-fiving last night…

    1. Krundle probably should have also mentioned the fans have no class either. It was nice that in one of the largest cities in the world that they could get 12,000 people to show up.
