It’s funny, but a buddy of mine—Tom Blanciak—mentioned Kunitz a few days before the Pens acquired him. (Tom also predicted the Pens would get Bill Guerin.) I have to confess I knew next-to-nothing about him. So I looked up his stats, which made me more comfortable.

The thing I like best about Kunitz is that he gets his goals whether he’s playing with Sid or skating on the third line. Some guys need a quality setup man to be effective, but Kuny creates his own opportunities with the way he plays. That’s what I mean when I say he’s “bomb proof.”

Like you, Tanger, I was thrilled about getting Tangradi. I really hated losing Ryan Malone and thought the Pens had gotten a sure-fire replacement. So far it hasn’t worked out that way. I do wish they’d give the kid a legitimate shot. Although it’s a bit of a gamble, maybe Shero should move the kinder, gentler Matt Cooke (sorry, Cookie) to open up a slot. But then you lose a good penalty killer and a good team guy. I dunno …
