Superstition Dictates I be Airborne on Friday.

I watched about 10 minutes of the game at a Tampa airport bar last night before I heard my name called over the loudspeaker to “report to Gate 63 because the doors will be closing shortly to ensure a timely departure.” Before my mad dash to my gate, I got to see two penalties against the Pens, two Penguin tallies, and a gimme goal the hockey gods spotted the Flyers. I was cautiously optimistic, though, because things looked a little different. Hell, Evgeni Malkin had scored, so it looked a lot different! When I landed back in the ‘burgh the final score was 10-3 and all was right with the world. The only logical conclusion  that me and everyone who knew I was on a plane during the game came to was that I gotta fly somewhere on Friday. I’m currently accepting suggestions and donations.

Hockey players and fans are arguably the most superstitious in the world, so maybe it was the fact that I finally washed my jersey for the first time since our last Cup run. Or maybe it was that I was on a plane. I’m sure the team waking up from our nightmare and remembering how good they are had a little something to do with it. So fellow fanatics, what superstitious traditions finally kicked in, or what drastic measures did you take between Games 3 and 4?

  1. ripped down all the playoff gear i had hangin up, put the house back to normal as it was in the regualr season……lit sage and excorised the house lol video on my page

  2. I didn’t, but when the Flyers scored first I had a good feeling… and then when Malkin scored first for us.. I knew it was n the bag!!! 😉

  3. Whatever it takes, right Joey?

I had to laugh when I read your article. I work the front desk at a local gym (actually Wright’s Gym—shameless plug). I work the evening shift, so that’s where I watch a lot of the games. If the Pens score or are playing well, I make everyone gathered at the front desk stand or sit (it’s like a bar so we have stools) in the same spot so they don’t disrupt our karma … 🙂

Last night, right after we’d gone up 4-3, my buddy Evan Freshwater decided to leave. I told him if the Pens lost I was holding him personally responsible … 🙂

  4. Didn’t wear anything Penguin. Wore t-shirt and socks with shamrocks all over them. Will continue wearing them as long as they are still in it.

  5. Yep, I changed into my 1992 Stanley Cup Championship t-shirt (the one w/the 2 Cups on it, lol!) And, BTW it still fits, lol!

  6. I went back to doing what I did in 09…this included dragging out my Hal Gill t-shirt and resting my Jerseys. I also went to the Ritz in Philly (2 blocks from my office) and did a pretty good job out screaming the Flyer hecklers with “Let’s Go Pens” chants. I think it worked…haha.
