    1. Jagr’s an amazing athlete. For him to average nearly a point per game at age 41 during this relatively low-scoring era truly is an impressive feat.

Although the foot speed isn’t there any more–except in short bursts–he’s still very dangerous in confined quarters. When he uses that big body to shield the puck, he’s still really tough to stop.

      1. I really enjoyed Despres matching up against him last week. Just shows how far Despres has come. I would’ve loved to see Jagr back in Pittsburgh for one more season.

        1. I agree on both counts, Zack. I really like Despres, too. Size, speed, agility, good offensive instincts, and some newly earned defensive chops make for a terrific package in a young d-man.

It would’ve been nice to see Jagr wear the black and gold again. I think it would’ve healed a lot of old wounds and cemented his legacy in the ‘Burgh.

Who knows? It still could happen …

    1. While I don’t believe Eaton has officially retired, he hasn’t played professionally this season according to Hockeydb.

I thought Mark contributed a great deal to the Pens’ success last season with his steady, heads-up play. However, his lack of foot speed was exposed during the playoffs.

Still, I think a team with a lot of young d-men could benefit from having a savvy vet like Eaton serve as a No. 6 defenseman and on-ice mentor.

    1. I liked Johnson, too. I thought he did a terrific job his first two seasons with the Pens and he seemed like a great team guy.

Unfortunately, Brent struggled mightily during his last season here (3.11 GAA, .883 SV%). In particular, he had a lot of trouble covering the posts.

As far as I know, Johnson has not officially retired. However, according to sites like Hockeydb and Hockey-Reference, he hasn’t played professionally since being released by the Pens following the 2011-12 season.
