Pens 5 Unanswered Goals to Top Stars

Fleury looked liked he may still have a thick coating of rust on his game in the early stages of this afternoon’s matchup with the Dallas Stars. Fleury, however, seemed to shake off the rust and go on to have a nice game.  Hopefully, the rust is all gone as we will need Fleury’s best game as the playoffs draw closer.

The Pens dug themselves an early hole, going down 3-1 early in the second period. As it was the other night, though, our boys just would not be defeated. The Pens reach down deep and scored 5 unanswered goals to go on and defeat the Dallas Stars.

Notes:

  • Malkin’s scoring streak came to end at 15 games.
  • Crosby had two goals to take over the league’s goal scoring race.
  • Ponikarovsky scored a power play goal in his Penguin debut.   It seems like he might be able to add something to this team.

No time to sit back and enjoy this victory as the boys must get ready for another afternoon match with the Boston Bruins tomorrow.  Let’s go Pens!

GameDay Poop: Stanley Cup Game 7 Prediction – The Pittsburgh Penguins vs Detroit Redwings

At a few minutes after 8pm tonight, a puck will be dropped inside the Joe Lewis Arena in downtown Detroit and the hopes and aspirations of 40 NHLers and millions of fans will be riding on a 60 minute battle to the end. All bets will be off. Lord Stanley’s Cup will be polished behind the scenes, fans from both cities will be figuring out the best place to celebrate the win, and every player whose skate touches the ice will use every ounce of ability in their body in a quest for something every hockey player fought all season for. It all comes down to this game. Are you ready?

Penguins Will Fly!

This game is going to be off the Richter Scale. This is Crosby vs Zetterberg, this is Fleury vs Osgood, this is the leagues top scorer Evgeni Malkin versus anyone who comes in his way. This is where the stars shine, and the Penguins have the two brightest. The Red Wings have only lost one game at home this playoff season and the Penguins plan on doubling that total by the time it is all said and done. The Penguins have proven their game seven mettle already this playoff year by easily offing the Capitals on their home ice.

Here is a list of four things the Penguins need to do to win: READ MORE »

Fleury Made the Difference in Game 7

Before this epic battle took place, as we tried to find a potential difference-maker in this series, we looked to the goaltenders.  Fleury would have the edge over Varlamov, and this would be the final determining factor over which team would advance.  It took seven games for that advantage to show up, but it did show up.  Now the Penguins are in the Eastern Conference finals again.  We felt for Game 7, with the way the Penguins had played through the first six games, that if Fleury equaled Varlamov’s numbers, they would win.  Fleury ended up with better numbers in this game and the Penguins won in a slaughter.  Let’s look at the numbers.   (Before that, I want to say that it’s not always about the numbers.)   READ MORE »

Gameday Poop: The Pittsburgh Penguins vs The Philadelphia Cryers – Game 5

This is hard hitting NHL hockey, not a Philadelphia ballet class. Look in the dictionary under the word ‘Whiner’ and you will see the 2008/2009 Philadelphia team photo. These guys are all talk. When they lose they are all meow meow meow Crosby was playing hockey and put the goal in our net meow meow meow. I’m thinking that since the classless Philadelphia fans boo their own players, the ‘Crosby Sucks’ chant is probably a huge Philadelphia compliment.

Here’s what the head crybaby – Philadelphia Cryers coach John ‘Cryer’ Stevens said about Crosby’s goal: “We didn’t put the puck at our feet and throw ourselves in the net, which obviously is allowed now” No, you didn’t but your sure did try to the whole game. “He knocks Marty into the net, that was my concern, the goalie has to be allowed to make a save.” John ‘Cryer’ Stevens said.

The Flyer whining about how the NHL hates them and loves the other teams media machine is in full effect:

How about Simon ‘Boo Hoo’ Gagne: “If that’s Scott Hartnell doing that, I’m not sure if that’s a goal. But it’s Sidney Crosby.” ‘Boo Hoo’ Gagne again: “I’ve always felt that we need to beat the other team, and we need to beat pretty much everything. We’re not going to get any calls from anybody.” The Flyers had twice the power play time as the Penguins this game. These guys have the nerve to READ MORE »
