Sidney Crosby’s on-ice achievements are truly awe-inspiring. Two Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Trophies, three Ted Lindsay/Lester Pearson Awards, and a Stanley Cup. Next to Ron Stackhouse, perhaps no Penguin was less appreciated in his time than defenseman Duane Rupp. Ironically, the fans’ dissatisfaction stemmed from a similar cause. Like Stackhouse, Rupp was a big player for his day (6’1” 195) who didn’t fit the mold of a stay-at-home bruiser.

The Mellon Arena/Civic Arena/Igloo has hosted its final regular season hockey game. The Penguin management did a tremendous job recognizing the many players, coaches, general managers, and other personnel that have meant so much to the team since it started to rent the building in 1967.
