There’s an old adage in sports—ride the horse that brung ya.’ (Or something like that.) Thank goodness Penguins coach Dan Bylsma paid it no mind as filled out his lineup card for Thursday’s critical Game 5 matchup with the pesky New York Islanders.

Penguins Replace Fading Flower for Game 5
Before I begin, I must confess that it pained me to write this piece. The last thing I want to do is be hard on a player—in this case Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury—when he’s down. Not only is Fleury one of the longest tenured Penguins—his career dates back to 2003-04—but he’s been such a huge part of the team’s success. Plus, he seems lik [...]

Benching Fleury Solves Only One of Penguins Many Problems
While Penguins goaltender Marc-André Fleury has rightfully bore the brunt of the load for last nights loss. The puck doesn’t stop there. Literally and figuratively.
Penguins coach Dan Bylsma sat before reporters last night and was asked “.. is there any thought to putting Vokoun in for game five?” After he him-hawed aroun [...]

Who are these guys wearing Black and Gold and what have they done with the Penguins?
OK, I was wrong. Before the playoffs started, I predicted the Penguins would win their first round series against the Islanders four games to one. After last night’s pathetic excuse of a hockey game, the series is now tied 2-2 and returns back to Pittsburgh for Game 5 Thursday night at the Consol Energy Center.
But was I really wrong? [...]

Are Penguins Doomed to Repeat History?
During a recent interview with Craig Adams, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette asked the Penguins forward if he thought history might play a part in the opening-round series between the Pens and Islanders.
“I always laugh when I see historical statistics that don’t really mean anything,” Adams said.
However, as Winston Churchill onc [...]

Video: Penguins Neal Viciously Slashed by Islanders Hamonic, Doesn’t Return
James Neal was viciously slashed by NY Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic during a Penguins 5 on 3 powerplay in the second period of Wednesday night’s playoff game. While it is being speculated that Neal had a lower body injury after a clean check by Hamonic, you can clearly see in the first video that it is Neal’s right hand th [...]

Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Islanders 2013 Playoff Predictions
When the puck drops Wednesday night in downtown Pittsburgh you can throw the 15 game win streak, the finishing first in the Eastern Conference and the Penguins beating the Islanders four out of the 5 games played this season out the window. Get rid of the pre-conceived notion that the New York Islanders are just going to roll over and hand th [...]

Plug ‘N’ Play Penguins Too Predictable?
For the past couple of seasons I’ve watched with increasing alarm as the Penguins have downsized (and defanged) in order to better fit Dan Bylsma’s “damn-the-torpedoes, full-steam-ahead” system.
It’s no secret that Bylsma’s approach is predicated on wearing the other team down with a relentless attack. While speed certainly is an asset in tod [...]

Bailey, Okposo Power Islanders Past Penguins 5-3
In the wake of his team’s sloppy 5-3 loss to the Islanders on Tuesday, Penguins coach Dan Bylsma clearly wasn’t a happy camper. He made it plain during Wednesday’s practice session that he expected better defensive play from his troops.
“They realize the situation,” Bylsma said. “Players spoke. Coaches spoke.”
To make sure his charges got the [...]
